BABS MEAGHER Babs "Barbara" Allyn Meagher, 1930-2014. Babs Moebius Pate Donnelly Meagher, of Magnolia, Texas, left this world to live with her Lord May 31, 2014. She was a cheerleader and a graduate of Sulphur High School at the age of 16. She met Bill Meagher while attending McNeese and became an opera soprano. She earned a BA in English from Louisiana State University, and became an Alpha Delta Pi life member. She began a teaching career in Corpus Christi, Texas, married Clarence Pate Jr., moved to Grapevine, Texas, adopted Melissa and gave birth to Allan and Prudence. She taught music at Notre Dame and English at Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas. In Lake Charles, La., she taught music at Maplewood and Sulphur High Schools while attending McNeese State University. She earned a Masters in Counseling. Babs taught English and Drama at Barbe High School. After retiring from teaching, she again attended McNeese and earned a BA in art. She was a prolific artist, most notably having work displayed in Paris. She and Bill resided in Houston, Lafayette, La., Denver, Rocky Ford, Co., Las Vegas, Spring, Texas and Magnolia, Texas. Babs was preceded in death by her parents, Hortense and William Moebius; and her sister, Joyce Tillerson; brother-in-law, Roy Tillerson; and her daughter, Melissa Stiles. She is survived by her husband, Bill Meagher; daughter, Prudence Pate Shelburne Gruss; son-in-law, Jerry Gruss; and granddaughter, Morgan Shelburne. She is also survived by her son, Allan Pate, his wife, Marie, and their children, Leah, Jacob and Rachel; and grandson-in-law, Michael Haley. Also in her family are one great-grandson, Jackson; her niece, Kathleen Tillerson Albro; and nephew-in- law, Thor Albro. She also leaves behind Bill's family, daughter, Faye, her husband, Tom Walker, their child, Jessica, and her husband, Chris McFarland; daughter, Frances and husband, Stuart Lange; son, Patrick Meagher, his wife, Lori, and their children, Lauren and William; son, John Meagher, his wife, Lesley, and their child, Blane; and John's children, Sheehan and Keegan; and son, James Meagher and his children, Zachary, Sarah and Emily. Babs was all about love and she has gently touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a devout Catholic and a woman of strength, integrity, grace, brilliance, beauty and charm. Those she loved became better people because of her. She leaves behind many friends and students. Her memorial and William Meagher's 90th birthday celebration will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, in their home, 32624 Wright Road, Magnolia, TX 77355. Babs was born Jan. 2, 1930, in New Orleans. The family requests donations to be sent to Doug Whistler, executive director of Assisted Living Center at Sendera Ranch, 5406 Ranch Lake Drive, Magnolia, TX 77354, so that he may continue the gentle care of those in need.
