1926 - 2013 Obituary Condolences
FRED CRABTREE Fred Cobham Crabtree, 86, of Henderson, passed away peacefully Nov. 24, 2013. He was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Hasty, Colo., to Tom and Lucille Crabtree and raised by his grandmother, Jane Crabtree. Fred was a 1945 graduate from Las Animas High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1945 and was inducted into World War II as a sergeant. Upon being honorably discharged after four years of service, Fred married his "one and only" Loraine. They had five beautiful daughters and the family settled down in Yuma, Ariz., where they called home for 42 years. In 1960, Fred started his own business, Valley Ditch Lining, in which he took very much pride in. He always had a lot of respect for the people that worked for him as did they for him. After being in business for 30 years, Fred retired in 1990. In 1995, Fred and Loraine moved to Henderson to be close to their five daughters and 13 grandchildren. He was always his grandkids' #1 fan, going to every ball game and being the loudest in the stands. In 2006, the couple headed to "the coast" in San Diego, where they enjoyed life for the next five years. In late 2011, they resided at Sunrise Assisted Living in Henderson. Fred was a one of a kind man who touched so many people with his huge heart and genuine blue eyes. He was a true family man with an amazing sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his grandma; parents; daughter, Lori Steen; and brother, Jack Crabtree. He is survived by his loving wife, of 66 years, Loraine Crabtree; daughters, Beverly Kay Finfrock-Swanson (Dr. Al), Judy Mckeeby (Danny), Nancy Dane-Butts (John) and Cathy Collingwood (Norm); son-in-law, Bob Steen; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and cousins, Virgil Crabtree and Robert Crabtree. Visitation will be at 12-2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, with funeral services following, both at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas. Fred will be laid to rest at Johnson Mortuary and Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 1415 S. 1st Ave., Yuma, AZ 85364. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to MSA Home Health and Hospice, 2520 St. Rose Parkway, Suite 220, Henderson, NV 89074. His smile, generosity and quick wit will be truly missed.
