JEANENNE WELLES Gala Jeanenne Welles passed away peacefully at home surrounded by those who loved her deeply, June 20, 2012. Her daughter, Desiree, who preceded her in death, welcomed her with open arms and let her know, "It's okay Mom, come with me now." Jeannene was born May 2, 1940 in Erick, Okla., to Ila Rae (Cluck) Tate and Troy L. Tate. She grew up in Watonga, Okla. Jeanenne graduated from Watonga High School. She was a guard on the basketball team and the Drum Major for her high school marching band. She attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., where she met her husband, David F. Welles. Jeanenne and David were married on June 1, 1959. Jeanenne and David moved to Las Vegas in 1960, where they raised their three children, Renee, Desiree, and David Curtiss. Jeanenne enjoyed playing tennis, league bowling, and always being a strong support to her children with their endeavors in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church camp, school, and involvement with their friends. In 2009, David, Jeanenne and their son moved to Reno, where she enjoyed being close to her daughter and grandchildren. Jeanenne was the anchor for her children and their friends. When a child was in trouble, Jeanenne was always the first to step in as a good listener; opening her heart and her home giving whatever was needed. Jeanenne was an active supporter of her husband's Las Vegas Rotary Club, and a proud recipient of a Rotary International "Paul Harris Fellow" award, given in appreciation of tangible and significant assistance given for the furtherance of better understanding and friendly relations between peoples of the world. She especially enjoyed participating in the Rotary "Santa Clothes" yearly event benefiting children in need of clothing at Christmas time and helping to organize the "Four-Way Speech Contest" benefiting high school students. She is survived by her husband, of 53 years, David; her son, David Curtiss Welles; daughter, Renee Welles; grandchildren, Lauren Faulkner and Garrett Faulkner; sister, Troyce Tate; uncle Earl Tate; aunt, Colleen Tate; and nephews, Michael Culpepper, Gavin Butcher and Rick Whiting. A memorial celebration of Jeanenne's life will be at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 28, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., with a private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in her name to the Las Vegas Rotary Foundation "Santa Clothes" program, P.O. Box 15152, Las Vegas, NV 89114. Please share your memories of Jeanenne with the family in the online Guest Book. Jeanenne will be remembered for her "iron will and a heart of gold."
