POLLY MARCEK Obituary
POLLY MARCEK Polly Marcek, 83, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, after a recent struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. Polly was born in Queens, N.Y., to William and Elizabeth McMurdo. She is survived by her sister, Jan Tarbert; her son, Cliff and his wife, Edmee; and daughter, Sharon Alsup and her husband, Mike Alsup; and by her grandchildren, Ryan Bondhus and Nicole Bondhus. She received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Vermont in 1952 and later received a master's degree. She moved to Las Vegas in 1958 with her husband, Tom Marcek. She worked as an elementary school teacher for many years and worked for the Social Security Administration as a claims representative later in life. She was an avid reader, gardener, painter and she loved to hike in Redrock Canyon. She retired in 1991 and was able to travel and spend time with her sister in the Caribbean and in upstate New York in the Berkshires. She was a kind, gentle woman who believed everyone was entitled to be treated with dignity. There will be a remembrance at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, at Cliff and Edmee's house. Please do not send flowers, but make a donation in her name to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.
