1934 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
WILLIAM SWITYK William F. Swityk, "Mr. Bill," 80, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully May 10, 2014, at Nathan Adelson Hospice, following an extended illness. He was born March 8, 1934, in the Milk River area of Alberta, Canada. Bill was a veteran of the Canadian Army and served as a paratrooper during the Korean War. He was an accomplished civilian aviator and served on the Clark County Sheriff Department's Aero Squadron and Pistol Team. Bill was a professional union iron worker and worked at various industrial sites in Canada and throughout the western United States. He worked for Reynolds Electrical and Engineering Company (REECo) at the Nevada Test Site from 1969 until he retired in 1989. He supported numerous underground nuclear tests. Bill was a Mason and an avid golfer. He was an accomplished pistol and shotgun shooter and had won numerous trophies for his cowboy shooting ability in competitions throughout the west. Bill volunteered much of his time supporting shooting events and performing maintenance at gun clubs in the area. He was a philanthropist who donated to several local charities. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Peter Swityk, Rev. Julian North; and sister, Teresa Iwanicha. Bill is survived by his siblings, Victoria Flora Bellefeuille, Albert Henry Swityk, Marian Foreman and Gloria Lillian Finlay. Services will be at 5 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
