DEWEY HINKLEY

DEWEY HINKLEY Dewey F. Hinkley, of Las Vegas, was born Oct. 18, 1923 and passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2013, at home, with his wife and son by his side. He lived a long and full life. He was born in Long Beach, Calif., and married the former Jamilia Murr June 27, 1948. They were married over 65 years and were inseparable through his final days. He had one son, Lance Hinkley. Dewey voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army Oct. 28, 1942 and was attached to the H & S Co. 650th Engineering Battalion and stationed among the many islands within the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea. He was a member of a team that surveyed landing fields and roads. He was honorably discharged Jan. 14, 1946. At various times in his life he owned a car dealership, was the general manager of a used car agency and sold new and used Cadillacs, Porsche and Audi vehicles. He was an extremely successful car salesman and his repeat business and "word-of-mouth" new clients are tantamount to his excellent follow-up and customer service skills. Dewey also gave back to the community in big ways. He was a very active member in the Millbrae, Calif. Lion's Club and in the Summerlin Lion's Club. He was the president of the Marina-North Beach, San Francisco Lion's Club from 1997 - 1999. He won numerous awards including the Helen Keller Fellow of the Lions Eye Foundation, Lion of the Year, multiple Youth Committee awards and served as the vice president, secretary and treasurer at various times. He was also active in his church, namely the First Presbyterian Church in Burlingame, Calif., and Mountain View Presbyterian Church, Las Vegas. He was both a deacon and an elder. Above all his accomplishments, he will be remembered as a loving and truly extraordinary husband, proud farther, excellent businessman and a wonderful provider. He will forever be in our hearts. Visitation will be 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Palm Mortuary, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89131. Graveside services following at Palm Memorial Park - Northwest.
