DONALD BOLAND Donald E. Boland, 95, of Las Vegas, passed away Easter morning, March 31, 2013, at his retirement home. He was born March 23, 1918, to George and Jessie Boland, in Williamsburg, Iowa. Prior to moving to Las Vegas, Donald had lived in St. Louis for over 35 years. A veteran of World War II, Donald achieved the rank of captain while stationed overseas in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of Iowa State in the college of Architectural Engineering. Donald met his wife, Elizabeth Jean "Betty" Thompson, while working at Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Company in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, of over 50 years, Betty. Donald is survived by his four sons, James (Judy), John, Keith (Lori) and Robert (Margo); his eight grandchildren, Paige (Mark), Jeffrey (Gretchen), Brian (Bonnie), Keith, Becky, John Jr., Trevor and Lilli; and two great-grandchildren, Brian Jr. and Priscilla. Many of his family members were in Las Vegas the preceding week to celebrate his birthday. In addition to the previously mentioned family, Donald is survived by his sister, Kathleen Schwanz; and extended family. Donald will be remembered as a kind and loving man who enjoyed his family and family gatherings, saving many pictures and cards of the events. He often referred to himself as "silly grandpa." Memorial services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson. Burial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
