JAMES PHILLIPS James Arthur Phillips, 66, of Henderson, passed away peacefully Jan. 13, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born to the late John Phillips and Nancy Hartford Stutz, Sept. 28, 1946 in Richmond, Va. "Jay" will be missed by his wife, Deborah Phillips; his three children, Beth, Alison and Whitnie; his brother, John; his sister, Patricia; and six grandchildren, Blake, Joshua, Shelby, Cooper, Wyatt, and Delaney. Jay graduated from high school in 1964 from Kaiserslautern American High School at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany. After graduation he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970. Upon returning from service Jay continued his education at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL where he graduated in 1972. He worked at Bell Helicopter International as well as URS and others. However, he spent most of his career managing aircraft maintenance and engineering at Southwest Airlines where he was employed from 1979 until he retired in 2009. Jay enjoyed airplanes, racing motorcycles, restoring cars, diving, deep sea fishing, and most of all captaining his boats on countless sailing trips. He loved the warm tropical weather of the Caribbean and sailing to remote destinations. One thing he loved more than the ocean was his family. Jay married the love of his life, Debbie, in 1996 in Jost Van Dyke, BVI and they have enjoyed an adventurous life of travel and exploration. Jay was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose kindness, love, and sense of humor will be missed by all. Services were previously held Jan. 16 in Henderson.
