JIMMY NEWMAN In loving memory of Jimmy Newman - Jimmy Newman, retired senior vice president of gaming for the Las Vegas Hilton, died peacefully, at home Friday, Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, surrounded by family and friends. He will be remembered by his family as husband, brother, dad, "papa", uncle Minnie, the Silver Fox, JN and "Boss." Charming, handsome, and personable, he had many friends and admirers. He had a dry whit and loved to tease and laugh with friends. Once you were his friend, you had a friend for life. Born in Amarillo, Texas, Nov. 7, 1925, to William and Lillian Newman, he spent his early years through high school as a Texas boy. He moved to Las Vegas in 1947 and fell in love with the town. He started as a poker dealer and worked his way up the ladder to senior vice president at Hilton. He semi-retired from the Las Vegas Hilton in 1997 but continued to consult until 2005. Throughout his life in the desert, he was an active sports enthusiast. He flew airplanes, water-skied, snow skied and was an avid golfer. He was so involved with the game of golf that he held the Jimmy Newman Classic from Nov. 3, 1985-Nov. 3, 1997 for the Las Vegas Hilton. He played golf throughout the world on his many travels, but always loved Las Vegas the best. Jimmy leaves behind his loving wife, of 26 years, Bunny; his son; two grandchildren; his stepdaughter and her family; and countless friends and admirers throughout the world. He will be missed. A celebration of Jimmy's life with family and friends is pending. Condolences can be sent to the family at 1405 Iron Hills Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89134.
