, Retired John Baker, of Las Vegas, passed away June 17, 2013. He was the eldest of seven sons, born Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1928, in Earle, Ark., to the union of Elijah Baker Sr. and Ethel Roberts. In 1988, John and Marie moved to Las Vegas avoiding the cold winters ("I will never shovel another flake of snow!"). His retirement hobbies were sports and gaming. One retirement highlight was an Alaskan cruise with Marie, Shirley and Sidney in 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Albert and Elijah Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, of over 52 years, Marie Smith Baker; children, Sidney Baker of Covina, Calif., Shirley Coleman Aikin of Tacoma, Wash., Burnell L. Coleman Jr. (Monica Paulina Sainz) of Las Vegas, Charles V. Coleman (fiance Sandra Malloy) of Lakewood, Wash., and Karen Stacey of Las Vegas; brothers, Ozelle Baker of Lake Bluff, Ill., Oliver (Sada) Baker of Las Vegas, and Don Baker of Casa Grande, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, Don, Ron and Robin (Baker) Phillips of Lake Bluff, Ill., and Kim Lowery of Collinsville, Ill.; aunt, Jessie Mae McDonald of Chicago; sisters-in-law, Samantha Russell and Virgie Foggy, both of East St. Louis, and Georgia (Edward) Mobley of Henderson; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 22, with services following, both at Affordable Cremation & Burial Services, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd. Burial will be at noon Monday, June 24, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
