COL. LEROY LAND U.S. Army
, Retired Leroy Cosby Land joined his beloved wife, of 67 years, Marjorie E. Land Nov. 26, 2012, He was born in Riverton, Utah March 5, 1917. Leroy is survived by his daughter, Mary Linda (Jack) Norman; his son, Edward C. (Ann Marie) Land and his daughter, Susan K. Land. He also leaves three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. He graduated from Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University) before marrying Marjorie E. Davis. Leroy and Marge spent over 30 years traveling with the U.S. Army in the U.S. and Europe. He distinguished himself during combat tours in three wars, World War II
in Europe, the Korean War
, and the Vietnam War
. He received his master of science and master of mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1964 in Arlington, Va.. and served in many capacities over the years. After his retirement in 1972, they moved to Norman, Okla., and spent 37 years there. Leroy was active in the church as well as in his community. He was one of the founders of the local ACE Home Improvement stores in Norman, Purcell and Blanchard, Okla. In 2007, Leroy and Marge moved to Las Vegas to be near their son, Edward, and his family. Leroy published his life's reminiscences and gave a copy to each of the children. It tracks his life chronology and observations for over 90 years, an epic period in U.S. history. Memorial services for the family will be in Las Vegas in early March 2013. In lieu of flowers or cards, contributions to your local veteran's home in his name will be greatly appreciated.
