MELVIN REED(1931 - 2014)

MELVIN REED Melvin Lewis Reed, 82, of Henderson, passed away peacefully at St. Rose De Lima Hospital, Jan. 19, 2014, with friends and family by his side. Melvin was born March 24, 1931, in Louisville, Ky., to Garland and Elizabeth Reed. He graduated from Portland Christian High School in 1949. He was the husband of Thelma Evelyn Reed (nee Lee), who passed away Feb. 17, 1963. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Mediterranean during the Korean War aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea. His main enjoyments were family, friends, and flying as a private pilot. He had a long, varied work life: telephone lineman/installer, gas station operator, insurance and hearing-aid salesman, cab driver and car salesman. He had his own fresh juice company, Nu-Life Juice, and general contracting company, Garland Construction. A retired stagehand and soundman for I.A.T.S.E. Local 720, he served as the head soundman for the Tropicana Hotel for 31 years. A great man, he was loved by many, respected by all. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Keith W. Reed, Clayton E. Reed and Loeita M. Reitz. He is survived by his wife, Ann; son, David Bruce Reed Sr. of Springfield, Mo.; daughter Laura Jo Caswell (Richard) of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; sister, Elizabeth Arlene Reed; stepdaughter, Cindy Vallette of Henderson; stepson, Tony Tucker of Provo, Utah; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins. Visitation and services were Thursday, Jan. 23, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be at 9:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 24, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. ,.......
