Orval Robinson

iconORVAL ROBINSON Orval S. Robinson, 90, a 48-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away May 25, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 27, 1920, in Springer, N.M., he was raised in Miami, N.M. He attended grade school in Miami, high school in Springer, college in Las Vegas, N.M. at Highlands University, earning his B.A. degree in 1951 and MA degree in 1956. Orval was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the China-Burma-India Theater 1942 - 1946. He worked for the Zia Company in Los Alamos, N.M. 1946-1949. Orval started his coaching/teaching career at Las Vegas, N.M. High School 1951-1956, then Los Alamos High School 1956-1963. He accepted a position as payroll supervisor for Reynolds Electric and Engineering Company at the Nevada Test Site in 1963 and moved to Las Vegas, Nev., retiring in 1987. He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Patsy; son, Tom of Tonopah; daughter, Catherine of Las Vegas; two sisters, Thelma Northrup and Margaret Smith; nieces, Lora L. Lusk, Jacqueline Garcia and Paula (Ron) Bousseau; nephews, Larry J. Robinson (Donna) and John M. Robinson (Samantha); 31 great-nieces and great-nephews; cousin, A.W. Orthman (Edith) and family; sister-in-law, Betty Jo Sheppard of El Paso, Texas and family; niece, Deborah (Wingfield) Herrera (RoJo) of Hawaii and family; and many longtime close friends. At Orval's request, there will be no services. Cremains will be taken to Miami, N.M. for burial.
