PATRICIA MATTHEWS Patricia "Pat" Ann Matthews (nee Howard) passed on to eternal life at her home in Sanford, N.C., Jan. 2, 2014. She was born Sept. 9, 1959, in Muncie, Ind., the daughter of William "Ralph" and Mary Howard. Pat graduated from Ball State University with a bachelor's degree in education in 1982, and moved to Henderson, where she built her life with her husband, Ken, and career as an elementary school teacher
and librarian. During this time, she furthered her education by earning a double master's degree in education and library and information services. Pat possessed a precious gift for teaching and was dearly loved by her community of students, co-workers, and parents. She completed her career at John Dooley Elementary in Henderson, and retired from the Clark County School District after 24 years of dedicated service. She will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and special talent for helping and encouraging others. Pat enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, and being a loving devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and educator. She has blessed each of us with her grace and the inspirational, courageous way she lived her life. Her favorite motto was "Live Well, Love Much, Laugh Often," all of which she did so well. She was preceded in death by her father in June 2009; and her sister, Virginia "Ginnie" in August 2013. She is survived by her spouse, Kenneth; her mother, Mary of Indiana; her sister, Penny of California; her niece, Angela; stepdaughter, Jessica of North Carolina; three nephews; two great-nephews; and a Godchild. Our family wishes to extend our appreciation and gratitude to all of those who provided care, motivational inspiration and walked alongside her during this difficult journey. A dedication to Pat will be 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13 in the John Dooley Elementary Library, 1940 Chickasaw Drive, Henderson, NV 89002.
