RYOKO HAUSKNECHT Ryoko Kato Hausknecht, a resident of Las Vegas since 1985, passed away Jan. 1, 2013, at Nathan Adelson Hospice. She died of complications from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Ryoko was born June 5, 1941 in Kumatoto, Japan, where she was raised. She graduated from Kyushu Jogakuin Lutheran Girls High School, in Kumamoto. She married Rev. Dr. Phil Hausknecht, (ret.), also a resident of Las Vegas, at the U.S. Consulate in Fukuoka, Japan, Aug. 5, 1961. They then exchanged their vows in a marriage service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Burlington, Iowa, Dec. 31, 1961. The Hausknechts served as missionaries of the Lutheran church in America in Japan from 1963-1975. Ryoko completed study at Orio Women's College in Kitakyushu, Japan. They also lived in Tucson, Ariz. from 1975-1985, where she was active at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church as Phil served as interim and then associate pastor. They moved to Las Vegas in 1985, when Phil was called to pioneer and develop Christ the Servant Lutheran Church. She worked at the Mirage for several years in the Japanese Division of the International Marketing Department and continued at the Bellagio as that facility was opened. For the past several years, she has been the executive assistant for Japanese Marketing at the Bellagio. She is survived by husband, Phil; son, Mark; daughters, Megumi, Marie and her husband Michael; seven grandchildren; and, in Kumamoto, brother, Tsuyoshi Kato and his family; and a sister, Mineko. The family is grateful for the nursing care she received in her several stays at St. Rose Dominican Hospital during the course of her illness. Ryoko will be cremated by Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial and her memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 2 S.
