VANALLA GLOVER Vanalla Glover was surrounded by her family at home in San Antonio, when she passed peacefully at age 93 into her Lord's care Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013. Vanalla was born Sept. 6, 1919 in Winnsboro, La., to Jesse and Rosie (Leland) Hartwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Willie "Buddy", Isaiah "Man", Jesse "Ray", Jerry Wallace "Broug", Elijah "Leo", and Kaiser "Ted" Hartwell; sisters, Della Huddleston, Sally Coleman, and Ida "B" Carter; husbands, Sam Glover and Eric "Tommy" Archie; daughter, Elizabeth "Sweet"; and son, Samuel "Sam." She is survived by her daughter, Rosie L. Davenport (Lewis); daughter-in-law, Ada Glover (wife of Sam); grandchildren, Crystal Davenport Holland (Roger), Carl Davenport (Marcella), Clarence Davenport, Gayle Glover Marquez, and Glenn Glover; and great-grandchildren, Amber Green, Marcie Bernard, Dominique Davenport, Christopher Marquez and Camryn Marquez. Vanalla and her children, Rosie and Sam, moved from Louisiana in the early 1940s and traveled by train to Las Vegas. She later met and married "Tommy" Archie. She worked in the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip for many years before it was called "the Strip," and eventually retired as a seamstress from the Riviera Hotel. She was a Jehovah's Witness and very faithfully served the Lord. She was very religious and loved attending church services. Vanalla was a hard worker who also had a passion for sewing and gardening. She was a loving and strict mother with her children, yet found time to help others in need. She had many friends who loved and admired her. We shall miss her smile and friendly personality. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, both at Bunkers Mortuary Chapel, 925 N. Las Vegas Blvd. Reverend Larry Logan officiating.
