VANCE SCHMIDT Vance Lee Schmidt, 62, was welcomed home to his family and friends in Heaven April 3, 2013. Vance was born in Anchorage, Alaska, Sept. 29, 1950. He resided in Cottonwood, Ariz. and Tonopah, before moving to Las Vegas, where he lived for the remainder of his life, though some would say Hawaii had become his second home. Vance served proudly as a North Las Vegas police officer before starting his own business, Best Lawn Care. Vance was a loving father and a devoted husband. He is survived by his two adoring sons, Chase and Phillip (Las Vegas); and his beloved wife, Janice (Las Vegas); as well as his surrogate son, John Pierre, all of whom love him and miss him deeply. Vance touched the lives of all those who got to know him. Many family and friends mourn his loss. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to assist the family with expenses and funeral costs by going to and searching Vance Schmidt. Private viewing was previously held at noon, Monday, April 8. Per Vance's request, a lighthearted service with selected guests will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at the Suncoast Casino, 9090 Alta Drive. The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the Suncoast for their compassion and hospitality.
