WILLIAM HUG William Eugene "Bill" Hug, 81, passed away Nov. 11, 2012, in his home in Henderson. Bill was born in La Grande, Ore., Oct. 13, 1931, to Eugene and Opal Hug. He and his wife, Kathryn, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Oct. 19, 2012. Survivors, in addition to Kathryn, are his son and daughter-in-law, Harper and Katherine Hug, of Palm Springs, Calif.; his daughter, Hilary Hug; and grandchildren, Harper, Hilary, and Jenny, of Palo Alto, Calif. Bill grew up in Northeastern Oregon and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon. He completed his MS at Northern Colorado University in Greeley and his EdD at the University of Southern California. His career in education began in the Long Beach, Calif. Unified School District. Bill served in the U.S. Army during the late 1950's. After finishing his doctorate, he served on faculties in the schools of education at Auburn-Alabama University, Teachers College at Columbia-New York City, and the University of Georgia. He participated in several national projects as well as authoring and editing numerous publications, including Instructional Design and the Media Program (ALA). After retirement, Bill created art at the wood lathe and displayed his art in shows and galleries throughout the Southeast. After moving to Henderson in 2001, Bill devoted his time to the stamp collection that he began as a child. In respect of Bill's wishes, there will be no services. In Bill's memory, family and friends may donate to Friends of Henderson Libraries in Henderson, the Lyndon House Arts Center and Foundation in Athens, Ga., or the American Red Cross Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort.
