MSGT. WILLIAM SIMSHAUSER U.S. Air Force, Retired William "Big Bill" Simshauser, 91, of Las Vegas, passed away July 16, 2013. He was born Oct. 9, 1921, to the late William and Alma Simshauser, in Lakin, Kan. Bill graduated from Deerfield High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor and also served during the Korean War, receiving a Bronze Star. Bill retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years and moved to Las Vegas in 1964. He worked for the City of Las Vegas, eventually working for Clark County as chief building inspector. He also taught plumbing building regulations at the Community College of Southern Nevada. Bill was a member of the North Las Vegas Elks Lodge and various organizations. He is survived by his wife, Gilda Simshauser; daughter, Sandra (John) Arnold; granddaughters, Christina Martindale and Victoria (Jess) Arnold; great-grandson, Nolan Martindale; brother, Norman (Ethel) Simshauser; sister, Verna Lillard; and numerous nephews and nieces. Memorial services are pending. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
