ARTHUR GRANT Obituary
ARTHUR GRANT Arthur George Grant passed away peacefully Nov. 19, 2012, at his home in Las Vegas, at the age of 88. Born Feb. 14, 1924, in Yardley, Wash., he is survived by his loving wife, of 59 years, Jean; his children, Karen Grant, David Grant and wife, Michele Tombari, Lauren Van Winkle and husband, Bill, and Samuel Grant; his grandchildren, Sundari Allen, Sara Sumpter, Robert Van Winkle, Sarina Grant and Alden Grant; his four great-grandchildren; and his brother, Walter Grant of Spokane, Wash. From humble beginnings, as the seventh child of Arthur Grant, a railroad yard switchman and Louise Grant, a homemaker, Art moved to the small town of Las Vegas in 1951, where he became part owner of the Nevada Club. He then established Honest John's Casino, which grew to three locations. As owner of Western Ave Business Properties, he secured real estate holdings in Nevada and Washington. During his 80th birthday, he was recognized for his entrepreneurship by the City of Las Vegas in a proclamation declaring Feb. 14, 2004 to be Arthur Grant Day. In retirement, Art taught himself and excelled at woodworking, making many pieces of outdoor furniture, which he generously gave as gifts. He also enjoyed gourmet cooking, poker, reading, traveling and his treasured Scottish Terriers. Art was a very caring, loving person to his family and friends, and relished time spent with his grandchildren. No services are planned. Our favorite valentine will be missed by all who knew him.
