ATHOS MAZZANTI Athos "Jim" Mazzanti passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at his home in Henderson. He was born June 21, 1927, in Butler, Pa., and was a long-time resident of Nevada. Jim served with distinction in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force during World War II, and the Korean and Vietnam wars, receiving the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He was a dedicated father, spouse, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. We each have our friendships developed over the years, but Jim always invited everyone into his home and heart with great warmth. Everyone greatly looked forward to the wonderful baked treats he made for the holidays, especially his children's co-workers. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Julia Walder; and sister, Gloria. He is survived by a large number of devoted friends and family, including wife, Dee Ann; six sons; three daughters; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Private services with military honors will be Monday, Nov. 5, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent in Athos Mazzanti's name to the Nathan Adelson Hospice Foundation , in recognition of the heartfelt support given to the family in the last months of Jim's journey on Earth.
