BANARD HAFEN St. George, Utah - Banard Ervin Hafen passed peacefully from this Earth Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, surrounded by his family. Banard was born in Santa Clara, Utah, Nov. 20, 1921. At 90 years old, he continued to play golf three days a week until August, shooting an 86 in his last game. Banard played football and baseball at the University of Utah, then served in Europe until the end of World War II. He married McVoy Holt in 1948, then he was drafted to the Detroit Lions, where he played two seasons, 1949-50. Banard spent his career as a special agent for the FBI then as chief investigator for Howard Hughes hotels in Las Vegas. He retired to the golf course in St. George in 1982. Banard is survived by his daughters, Susan Henderson, Sally Tielemans (Anton), Laurie Hafen and Elaine Krause (Curtis); 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the mortuary.
