BERNARD LEWIS Bernard Keith Lewis, a resident of Guam, was born July 2, 1960 in Montgomery, Ala. to his parents, Dave and Hester Lewis, and he departed this life Sept. 9, 2012. Bernard graduated from Eldorado High School in 1978, and eventually graduated as a commissioned officer from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. While serving in the military, he met and married Saundra. They were blessed with two children from that union, a daughter, Briana, and a son, Edric. While actively serving in the U.S. Army Reserve, he and his family were transferred to Agat, Guam in 2004. During his stay in Guam, he met and married his current wife, Maria Yusi. Bernard leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Maria of Guam; daughter, Briana Jestine Lewis; son, Edric "Hill" Lewis, both residents of Albuquerque, N.M., who says, "He was both a wonderful dad and a great teacher." He also leaves to cherish his memories, his parents, Dave and Hester Lewis of Las Vegas; his sisters, Anne Marie (James) Gaston of Montgomery, Patsy Ruth Chandler of La Habra, Calif., Yolanda Denese Rayford, Wanda Delola Lewis, Jeanette Marie Lewis and Nannette Ann Lewis of Las Vegas; brother, Edward Charles Lewis of Los Angeles; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Viewing will be 3-6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25. Home-going celebration for Bernard will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, both at Thomas and Jones Funeral Home, 310 Foremaster Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Interment will immediately follow the ceremony at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV 89005.
