BERNARD SMITH Bernard I. Smith, also known as "Shorty," "Smitty," "B.I." and "Irvin," 90, of Las Vegas, passed away Nov. 13, 2012. Shorty was born July 14, 1922, in Lebanon, Colo., to Bernard E. and Una Ella Smith. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he served as an airplane mechanic. He worked at the Nevada Test Site, was the owner of two Gulf service stations, retired from Charlie Brown Construction as a heavy equipment operator, and he was a lifetime member of Moose Lodge. Shorty was preceded in death by his wife, of 70 years, Jean; one sister; and three grandchildren. He is survived by son, Chuck (Judy); daughter, Tonya (Bennie); six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren, with a seventh on the way. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 20, with funeral services following, both at Palm Mortuary-Eastern, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be private at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. Donations may be made to the
