1940 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
CALVERT LYON Calvert Baxter Lyon, 74, of Overton, passed away peacefully Friday, May 23, 2014, at home. He was born March 4, 1940, in Overton, to Warren McLachlan "Mack" and Dorothy Bowman Lyon. Sept. 6, 1960, he married Linda Lee Marshall in the St. George LDS Temple. Cal lived most of his life in Overton. He served in the U.S. Air Force, in Albuquerque, N.M., and later in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, eventually earning the rank of colonel. He was president of the Moapa Valley Telephone company and was credited with always being innovative and on the cutting edge of new technology. He served as bishop in the LDS Church, and as a missionary with his wife in the London South Mission. He loved to play golf. He will be remembered as an organized, intelligent businessman, as a man with integrity and as a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Morgan; and one sister, Rebecca. He is survived by his sweetheart, Linda; four sons and one daughter, Brad (Joyce) of Overton, Shawn (Rochelle) of Valencia, Calif., Wes (Heather) of Overton, Aaron (Anita) of Logandale, and Ashlee (Joe) Aldrich of Queen Creek, Ariz.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters, Pat (Sam) Wells of Anaheim, Calif., Karen (Jim) Hansen of South Jordan, Utah, Jeanenne (Brent) Nielsen of Wellsville, Utah, and John (Monique) Lyon of Overton. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Overton LDS Chapel, 161 W. Virginia Ave. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the Moapa Valley Mortuary and again 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery, Overton. Arrangements under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary, (702) 398-3600.
