CALVIN FILSON Calvin Dewhurst Filson, 91, passed away Oct. 6, 2012. Calvin was born in Taylorville, Ill., to Glenn and Mary Filson May 8, 1921. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. While serving, he met and married a U.S. Navy nurse, Edna Richard, March 5, 1945. They moved to Las Vegas where Calvin began his 39 year career with Trans World Airlines. After retiring, they settled in Boulder City over 30 years ago. Calvin loved his work and traveled the world. He and Edna also spent many fun filled adventures in their motorhome. He was a kind hearted man that volunteered in his church and often to help others. He was a drummer in the University of Illinois Marching Band and the Las Vegas Eldorado Marching Band. Wood working and fixing anything were his passionate hobbies. Family was the most important thing to Calvin. He enjoyed family dinners and joking around with his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly called him "Poppy". He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; and a sister, Genevieve. He is survived by his wife, of 67 years, Edna Filson of Boulder City; three daughters, Dana Stauffer of Boulder City, Leah (Charles) Richard of Haines City, Fla., and Mary Filson of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at Grace Community Church. Calvin will be laid to rest at 1:20 p.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.
