CARL SEMON Carlo Semonian, aka Carl Semon, was born Oct. 27, 1929 and rested in peace July 18, 2012, at Serenity House Hospice, in Santa Barbara, Calif., with his family by his side. He was survived by his sister, Dorothy Jean Sedore, of Yearington; his wife, of 65 years, Joy Semon of California; three daughters, Linda Lohmann of Aliso Viejo, Calif., Brynda McPeters of Santa Barbara, and Semone Gell of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Carl was born to Misak and Mary Semonian, immigrants of Yerevan, Armenia. He was the eldest of three children, grew up in Chicago, and then Santa Barbara. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and a volunteer fireman in Ventura, Calif. He served in the U.S. Army from 1947-1950. After Fort Benning, Ga. He went on to serve in the 187th Regiment of the 11th Airborne Division Occupational Forces in Japan after World War II. He and Joy were married July 26, 1947, in Santa Barbara. After the military service, he owned and operated Carl Semon Excavating for several years in Ventura. During the 1960's, he followed his passion and began working in the music industry. He opened Vox Hall Retail Music Equipment Store in Oxnard, Calif., Black Gold Sound in Montalvo, Calif., Valley Music in Goleta, Calif., and in Bakersfield, Calif. In later years, he and Joy retired in Las Vegas, where he owned and operated a mill to process precious metals in Henderson. The last two years of his life, he and Joy lived in southern California near their daughters. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N.
