CAROLYN JOINES Anna Carolyn Joines, a 31-year resident of Las Vegas, and a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away July 11, 2012, in a vehicle accident in route to a family reunion. She was born to William and Josephine Odbert Dec. 26, 1937, on the family ranch near Lake City, Calif., and across an alkali flat from Washoe Co. She was a descendent of Hiram Mott Sr., a Nevada pioneer who led his family west and established Mottsville, Nev. near Genoa in 1853. She married John Joines in Alturas, Calif. July 8, 1967 and just celebrated 45 years of marriage. She was a dedicated teacher who dearly loved teaching young children; and in her retirement years, continued as a volunteer helper in kindergarten and second grade until last year when back problems forced her to stop. She graduated from Surprise Valley High School in Cedarville, Calif., and Chico State College in California. She completed her master's degree through Leslie College and taught in California, Germany, and Idaho before finishing her career in the Clark County School District. She loved to travel and originally completed stewardess school so she could but could only work on the ground till she turned 21, so she went on to college and became a teacher for the armed forces in Germany, where she traveled extensively through Europe and the mid-east. Her parents, four brothers and three sisters preceeded her in death. She is survived by her husband, John; son Christopher; daughters, Cheryl Stark and Karen Moore (Chad); grandsons, Billy Stark, Joshua Moore and Logan Moore, all of Las Vegas; sisters, Mildred Johnstone of Red Bluff, Calif., and Virginia Grove (Jerry) of Cedarville, Calif.; brother, John Toney (Phyllis) of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Ruby Toney of Ashland, Ore., and Clara Odbert of Coos Bay, Ore.; and many nieces and nephews. Viewing will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, July 20, with Rosary at 5 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, all at Palm Mortuary, 6701 N.
