 CLAIRE FISH Claire Elaine Sperry Fish, the beloved matriarch of the John Rogers and Elaine Sperry Fish family, passed away peacefully the night of Jan. 5, 2013, in Las Vegas, with family by her side. Claire Elaine Fish was born Aug. 14, 1925, in Manti, Utah, to Sidney B. and Eva Lila Braithwaite Sperry. She attended Brigham Young University and graduated in 1948. At BYU, Elaine was a member of several sororities. In her freshman year at BYU, she was president of her sorority, Lambda Delta Sigma. After graduation from college, she became an assistant professor at Utah State University, securing the position of home demonstration agent in Sevier County, Utah. She was married to John R. Fish, Sept. 6, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple. Elaine was known for her elegant, refined, and dignified presence. In June 1954, John and Elaine moved to Las Vegas. John and Elaine Fish opened their first jewelry store called Vegas Jewels, Oct. 14, 1955, which is currently known as John Fish Jewelers on E. Sahara Ave. Elaine worked actively in the Las Vegas community. She loved the fine arts, and worked with Nevada Opera Theatre for years. She was also a member of the Mesquite Club and an avid ballroom dancer. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Fish. Elaine is survived by her five children, Susan (Van) McCarlie of Provo, Utah, John D. (Pilar) Fish, Howard S. (Tresa) Fish, Rebecca (Richard) Rovere and Stephen R. (Janice) Fish, all of Las Vegas; 30 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard and Brent Sperry; two sisters, Phyllis Bytendorp and Karen Grant; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-noon, Saturday, Jan. 12, with funeral services following, both at the West Charleston Chapel of the LDS church, 3400 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89102.
