1922 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
CLARA PITTS Clara A. Pitts passed away October 3, 2017, in Anacotes, Washington. She was born September 26, 1922, in San Dimas, California, the youngest of the four children born to John D. and Melva Mable (Martin) McNeill. She was raised in numerous communities in southern California. Clara graduated from Orange High School in Orange County in 1941. She moved to Pasadena, California during the war and worked at the Sears Department Store for eight years. While working there, she went on a blind date with a recently returned veteran, James Barron Pitts, whom she would marry in January 1947. She was active in the PTA and they both were big supporters of the East Pasadena Little League. They were transferred to Las Vegas in 1962, where she became a member of the Sunrise Hospital auxiliary. She later went to work in medical records, where she spent 27 years and returned to the auxiliary after retirement. A very outgoing personality, she enjoyed playing cards with her group of friends and traveling to many foreign destinations. She had a strong sense of family and hosted a big Thanksgiving weekend for many years. She moved to Washington State in 2010 to be closer to family and resided in a senior community until her death. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Barron; sisters, Elizabeth Wright and Dorothy Lingor; and brother, John Robert McNeill. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Maria of Anacortes; grandson, Daniel of Washington, D.C.; nephew, Ron Phillips of Astoria, Oregon; and niece, Saranell DeChambeau of Langley, Washington. Per her request, there will be no services. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel of Anacortes, Washington, (360) 293-3311.
