Donald Carr Obituary
DONALD CARR Donald Evan "Don" Carr, of Las Vegas, passed away at his home Sunday, May 15, 2011, surrounded by his wife, of 50 years, Chris; his daughter, Kathy; and two sons, Clay and Jeff. Don was born Oct. 8, 1938, in Greencastle, Mo., to the late Dale Carr and Lela Carr Buchholz of Las Vegas. Don moved to Las Vegas in 1948. He graduated from Las Vegas high school in 1956 and entered the U.S. Navy that year to serve with his brother Dale Carr. He began work in the construction industry in 1959 and along with his wife Chris founded Classic Door & Trim in 1981. Don was highly respected in the construction industry and known for his honesty and calm demeanor. It goes without saying that Don will be missed by all. He was a devoted family man, and his children and grandchildren were adored by Don. His way with animals was wonderful. His beautiful Sheltie "Katie Scarlet" will always be looking for him and expecting him for the daily walks and chores. Don's way with children was wonderful. Chris used to say that he was a natural "Activity Director. Don and his daughter, Kathy were extremely close and he actively supported his sons, Clay and Jeff in their love of off-road racing with S.N.O.R.E. (Southern Nevada Off Road Racing Enthusiasts). He was friends with everyone but he was closest to Heaven at our second home in Mt. Charleston. He never tired of going every Wednesday and any weekend possible. He would load up all of the dogs and grandkids and they would "jump" at the thought of going to the mountain with grandpa. Don is survived by his life-long business partner and loving wife of 50 years, Christine; one daughter, Katherine (Kathy) Doty and her husband, Charles Doty and their children, Marc Evan Doty and Julianne Christine Doty; son, Clayton Evan Carr and his wife, Teresa Carr and children, Caitlin Elizabeth Carr, Jeremy Harmon (wife, Jennifer and great-grandson, Asher) of Kalispell, Mont., and Joshua Harmon of Las Vegas; son, Jeffery Dale Carr and his wife, Jerri Carr and their son, Jay Clayton Carr. Preceded in death by his brother, Dale Carr of Fallon; and Paul R. Buchholz of Texas. He is survived by his sister, Norma Lou Cygan of Eugene, Ore.; his brother, Jerry Buchholz (Linda) of Minnesota; brother, Alan Buchholz of Las Vegas; sisters, Marie McCaughey and Betty Balluff (Bill) of Las Vegas; and many nieces and nephews. To honor all that Don has contributed to the City of Las Vegas, Mayor Oscar Goodman has declared and proclaimed that Saturday, May 21, will be recognized and known as Donald Evan Carr Day in Las Vegas. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at The Lakes Lutheran Church, 8200 W.
