DONLAN MALTBY Obituary
DONLAN MALTBY Donlan Everett Maltby, 77, passed suddenly at his home in Las Vegas Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012. Don was born Aug. 2, 1935, in St. Louis Park, Minn., and was a resident of Las Vegas for the past 21 years. In 1959, he graduated from the University of Minnesota, where he majored in history and played hockey for the Golden Gophers. Don married the love of his life, Colleen Carol Olsen, June 11, 1960, in Sleepy Eye, Minn. He proudly served in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord, Calif. for two years. He worked as a director of operations in the public warehousing industry throughout the Midwest and southern California for 28 years. He and his beautiful wife came to Las Vegas in 1991 to open a successful postal annex franchise. Don was an avid sports fan. He was the star player in numerous softball leagues where his "power-hitting" was second to none. Most of his free time was spent coaching and supporting his children's youth, high school and college sports teams. He lived for his favorite teams including the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Cubs and the UNLV Runnin' Rebels. You could find Don and Colleen at their favorite local tavern socializing with friends and singing his favorite country songs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Everett Maltby; and his daughter, Kim Parr. He is survived by his wife, Colleen, of 52 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Sandy Maltby of Atlanta; his son-in-law, Jim Parr of Denver; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Denise Maltby of Chicago; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Darryl McCullough of Las Vegas; and his daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Jo and Robert Gutierrez of Anaheim Hills, Calif. Don is also the very proud papa of 10 perfect grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30, at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.
