iconMCPO EDWARD GANNON U.S. Navy, Retired Edward Gerald Gannon, a devout Catholic and highly decorated World War II U.S. Navy veteran, was born April 30, 1926, in Cleveland, to immigrant parents, Edward John and Augusta Denzinger Gannon. He passed away at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Sept. 7, 2012, with family members by his side. After serving his country for 30 years, he resided in San Francisco, where he drove a taxi and dispatched for the South San Francisco Police Department. He then moved to Las Vegas, and proudly owned Gannon's Tax Service before retiring. At an early age, he developed a love of bowling and won many tournaments and trophies. He was a life member the Southwest Nevada Chapter of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wives, Manuela and DeLinda; sisters, Marie and Patricia; daughter, Kathleen; stepdaughter, Tina; and grandson, Daryl Jay "DJ." He leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Fernando and wife, Christina, of Las Vegas, Morris and wife, Liliana, of San Pablo, Calif., Timothy of California, and Michael Gannon and Valerie Hallgren of Pacifica, Calif.; daughters, Patricia and husband, Ben, Hardy of Murrieta, Calif., and Margaret and husband, Michael Ulm, of Aiea, Hawaii; stepdaughters, Barbara Harris and partner, Andee Cornell, of Las Vegas, and Diane Fuller of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 17 grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, great-grandchildren and friends. The love and devotion to his family was evident through a lifetime of caring and providing for them responsibly. His determination, quiet strength, intelligence and quick wit and good sense of humor will live in our hearts forever. Father Isidore Dixon will preside over the funeral Mass at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Rose Chapel, Armed Forces Retirement Home in Washington, D.C. John Frischmon from St. Andrew Catholic Community will preside at the committal service and burial with military honors Tuesday, Sept. 18, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City. Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation. "Fair Winds and Following Seas and "Bravo Zulu" to you Master Chief Petty Officer Gannon, you will be missed."
