ELIZABETH SARLES Elizabeth A. Thompson Sarles, 74, a retired medical technologist, of Las Vegas, passed away Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at Creekside Hospice, after a long battle with congestive heart failure and breast cancer. She was born July 21, 1938, in Englewood, N.J., and was a 41-year resident of Nevada. Elizabeth graduated high school in Pleasantville, N.Y., in 1956, and from Knox College in Galesburg, Ill., in 1960, with a degree in science. She trained as a clinical laboratory medical technologist at St. Jude's Hospital in Fullerton, Calif. She worked as a clinical laboratory medical technologist at the Fraunspital in Basel, Switzerland for one and a half years, returning to Pleasantville, in the spring of 1964. She married Peter G. Sarles, of Bedford Hills, N.Y., Aug. 21, 1965. She worked as a supervisor of the Serology Department at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut. Elizabeth moved to Las Vegas in the fall of 1971, where she worked for APL/Quest Diagnostics as a hematology/blood bank supervisor. She retired in 1986 to become a full-time volunteer care taker of Potosi Pines Methodist Church Camp. Elizabeth and Peter returned to the Las Vegas valley in 1993. For several years, she was a delegate to the Bi-Annual International Association of Medical Laboratory Technologists. She was an active master gardener with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Services for 15 years. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Priscilla A. Johnson and Harlan M. Thompson. She is survived by her husband, of 47 years, Peter G. Sarles; sisters, Carol DeCoster of Foster, R.I. and Martha Nester of Seattle; brother, Alan Thompson of Waukesha, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89121. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Community Lutheran Church.
