PASTOR GENE NILSEN Reverend Eugene William Nilsen, Pastor Emeritus of Community Lutheran Church of Las Vegas, passed away Aug. 27, 2012. He was born in Chicago, Nov. 1, 1921. He graduated from St. Olaf College and Luther Theological Seminary and was ordained June 22, 1947. He served in churches in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, and Montana before being welcomed into Community Lutheran Church, from which he retired--twice. Pastor Gene founded two churches and was the assistant to Bishop Wick as part of his career. He was recently honored for 65 years in the ministry. He is survived by his brother, Robert; daughters, Linda and Nancy; son, Paul; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 31, at Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave. Interment will be the following week at Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
