HAROLD HANDLEY Harold E. Handley, "Shorty," 82, entered into rest Dec. 14, 2012, at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash. Shorty was born June 8, 1930, in Wagner, S.D., to Joseph W. and Ruby (Hall) Handley. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. The second oldest of 10 children, he grew to know the value of hard work, and did so to provide for his wife and children. He was a man of integrity and was unconcerned with material possessions, yet his children never went without anything they truly needed. His lifelong work was as a gasoline transport truck driver primarily in the Las Vegas area from 1970 until his retirement in 1995. His joys included listening to country music, playing the guitar and harmonica, and spending time with his family. He was a very generous, kindhearted man who always stood up for the underdog and those less fortunate. Dad was loved by many and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his loving wife, of 50 years, Alene C. Handley, in 2009; his brother, Joseph Handley in 1993; and his son- in-law, Robin Allred in 2003. He is survived by his children, Victoria Weed, Albert (Faith) Haupt, Maureen Allred, Shanon Handley, Reesa Handley and Kathy Moore; his son-in-law, James Moore; his "adopted" daughter, Laura (Bernie) Lucido; his seven grandchildren, Adam (Misty) Handley, Amy Allred, Ashley (Harvey) Ellison, Alicyn Allred (Terry), Tyler Evan Moore, Britt Haupt, Melissa Haupt and Rachel Lucido; his great-grandchildren, Hannah, Cailyn, Aaron, Ella, Ty, Aarik, Daisy, Breanna, Brittany, Conner, Nathalie and Kaylee; as well as his siblings, Gladys Fleming, Dixie Chenevert, Coreena Handley, Dorothy Christman, Thomas (Joann) Handley, Dave (Linda) Handley and Pat (Patty) Handley; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be noon-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 22, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne, Las Vegas, NV 89129. A family gathering will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent in his memory to The , 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W., Suite 800, Washington, D.C. 20004.
