HERMAN BARON Herman Baron, 95, passed away April 28, 2017. He was born Dec. 15, 1921. Herman was the beloved husband and best friend of the late Harriet, to whom he was married for 68 years; loving father of Michael (Samantha), Scott (Nancy Post), and the late Ira and the late Sherwin (Kimberly Baron-Mandis); cherished grandfather of Jonathan (Amanda), Heather, Kelsey (Brandon), Eric, Daniel, Wyatt, and Mallory; and proud great-grandfather to Jack. He was the loving brother-in-law to the late Raymond (Roslyn) Gleicher; and caring uncle to Marvin (Ilene) and Steven (Louise Unell). Herman was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur. Herman was a veteran of World War II, serving as a heavy bomber pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. On his 16th and final mission, after bombing the oil fields around Auschwitz, his plane was disabled and he bailed out after his crew over Budapest, Hungary, where, fortunately, the Russians picked him up, and with his help were able to locate his entire crew. It was a source of great pride that he was able to bring his entire crew home safely. Among his crew was Arthur Baron, Herman's younger brother, who served as his radio operator and gunner. Herman's courage, bravery and injuries earned him a Purple Heart. After the War, Herman completed his education and worked several jobs, sometimes three jobs at a time, until starting his own successful business distributing electronic components in the mid-1970s. He retired and moved to Henderson with Harriet in 2000. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, at Prestige Senior Living At Mira Loma, 2520 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, NV 89074. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO at www.uso.org in memory of Herman Baron.
