JAMES KACHNIK James Edward Kachnik, 66, of Henderson, passed away Nov. 3, 2012. Born in Chicago, Feb. 4, 1946, he loved life no matter where he called home. Jim grew up on Erie Street with his eight brothers and sisters. He then served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran, floating the supercarrier, USS Forestall, from 1963-1967. Although he always took pride in his Chicago roots, he also made a home and spent significant time in Alaska before retiring to Nevada. Jim was known as a sports enthusiast, a loyal Bears fan, and an outspoken "supporter" of Sammy Sosa. He was not shy about who he was rooting for, and was known to make a bet or two and he had us all "betting the over." But Jim is best known for being a great father and an awesome Papa. He will be greatly missed as a brother, an uncle, and a friend to so many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Catherine; and his siblings, Ann, Marion, Gwendolyn and Joseph. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer and her husband, Ryan; grandsons, Alex, Reese and Rexton; his son, Walter and his wife, Candida; his daughter, Danielle and her husband, Jonathan; granddaughter, Jordan; his son, Otto; grandchildren, Jessica, Kirstee and Liam; and his son, James and his family. In addition to his children, Jim is also survived by his siblings, Edward, Mary, Catherine, Elizabeth and John; numerous nieces, nephews; and cousins rounding out his blessed family. Naval memorial service will be at 12:40 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, to celebrate his life.
