JOHN MANIS John William "Jack" Manis, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away Aug. 21, 2012 in Delta, Utah. He was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada Jan. 8, 1929 to James and Marion Manis, the second of five sons. The family moved to Hinckley, Utah in his youth and he graduated Hinckley High School in 1947 where Jack was active in athletics, student government and music. He married Kathryn June Wilson in 1951 and they moved to Las Vegas in 1953. He pursued career as a blacksmith and worked for Clark County Road Department. He later worked in hotel and casino security and surveillance at various hotels, and was then first chief of security at Caesars Palace when it opened in 1966. Always a cowboy at heart, he competed throughout his youth and adult life in amateur and PRCA rodeos in roping and steer wrestling, and was awarded a PRCA Gold Card. Following retirement, enjoyed his summers working on his farms in Hinckley. He was a member of the LDS Church. Jack is preceded in death by wife, Kathryn; and brother, Edward. He is survived by son, John William Jr. (Carrie); daughter: Patricia, both of Las Vegas; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers, Walter, Robert and Jimmy; and many nieces, nephews and friends. His guidance, work ethic and sense of humor will be missed. "It was a swell party!" Viewing will be 7-8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 24, with a second viewing at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 25, both at Nickle Mortuary, 190 S. Center in Delta. Graveside services to follow at 11 a.m. (Mountain Standard Time) at Hinckley Cemetery.
