JOSEPH DONATO Obituary
JOSEPH DONATO Joseph Ronald Donato, 85, passed away suddenly April 16, 2018, at his home, in Las Vegas. Joseph was born July 23, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Rae B. Mungiole and Joseph A. Donato. In the late 1940's, Joseph joined the U.S. Army and was soon given the prestigious position of Tomb Guard at The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. At 17 years old, he was one of the youngest soldiers to ever walk that post and held that sacred position for over two years. After his service in the Army, Joseph began working as a stuntman in western movies and television shows and also traveled as part of the live Roy Rogers shows that toured the country. He also dabbled in real estate, but eventually settled in Hollywood, California in the early 1980's and soon began directing and producing movies such as, "Twist of Fate" and "Tomb-stone." Joseph retired to Las Vegas in 2007 and enjoyed buying and selling historic items such as knives and guns and attending exhibitions. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Donato. He is survived by his sister, Florinda D. Doelp of Pennsylvania; his sons, Larry Donato of New Jersey, and Ronald Donato of Pennsylvania; daughters, Diane Connolly of California, and Rachelle Donato of Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Amanda Donato, Diane Donato and Dominick Donato; four great grandchildren; and numerous other family members. Joseph lived a full and exciting life and leaves behind many mourning friends and associates including trusted confidante, Rick Bernstein, whom he considered family. Joseph possessed an infectious laugh and always had a story to tell and made an impact on everyone's life he touched and will truly be missed. Relatives and friends are invited to his graveside service Friday, May 18, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 626 Bailey Road, Yeadon, PA 19050. We will be organizing our procession at the cemetery office parking area precisely at 11:30 a.m. to the graveside. Arrangements entrusted to Murphy Ruffenach, Brian W. Donnelly Funeral Home successor to A.P. Donato Funeral Home, 2237-41 S. 3rd St., Philadelphia, PA 19148, (215) 334-1578.
