LARRY CRISWELL Obituary
LARRY CRISWELL Larry Dee Criswell, age 69, a Las Vegas resident since 1966, passed away March 6, 2017, at home, due to congestive heart failure. Larry was born July 10, 1947, in Seymour, Mo., to Joe and Donna Criswell. He had an idyllic small town childhood where he developed his life-long love of hunting and fishing. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1966 along with 45 other classmates and was able to attend his 50th class reunion last year. Larry served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966-1970 during the Vietnam era, while stationed in the Philippines, he taught survival skills to pilots and airmen and was then transferred to Nellis Air Force Base, which is what brought him to Las Vegas. Larry was a long-time member of Teamsters Local 631, working in the convention services area, where he made many life time friends who will be saddened by his passing. He was an avid outdoorsman and passed this love of the outdoors on to his son, Michael. He spent many happy days hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family and had many wonderful memories of those days. He also enjoyed square dancing and met his wife, Laurie, in a square dance class. He was a member of the Reel Rebels Square Dance Club and previous member of the Good Times Square Dance Club. Larry and Laurie traveled many places for square and round dancing and enjoyed the camaraderie and friendships they developed over 25 years being involved in this wonderful activity. They enjoyed traveling and dancing all over the world, visiting South America, the Falkland Islands, Antarctica, Turkey, Italy, Greece, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Austria, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and many states in the US. Camping on the coast of California in the RV with the furry Jack Russell kids, Jessie and Woody, was a favorite place to visit. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Joe. He is survived by his wife, Mary "Laurie" Criswell; his mother, Donna Criswell; sister, Diane Lansdown; son, Michael Criswell and his wife, Barbara; stepson, Shawn Thomas and his wife, Sharito; six grandchildren; along with his special furry rescue kids, Jessie and Woody, who dearly miss him. Celebration of Larry's life will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 26, at Affordable Cremation and Burial, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd., in Las Vegas. There will be a gathering at the family's home afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to the at www.heart.org or the NSPCA www.nevadaspca.org
