MARJORIE GLEED Marjorie Gleed, 83, passed away Aug. 11 at her home in Boulder City. She was born March 1, 1929 in Perth, Western Australia. In her youth, Marjorie excelled in her studies, and worked as a hairdresser, an x-ray technician and a fashion designer for one of Melbourne, Australia's leading fashion houses. In 1951, she moved to Montana, where she met and married George Gleed and started a family. Marjorie's family moved to the Reno area in the 1960's when George Gleed purchased the Reno-based Western Tobacco company and the Las Vegas-based Western Cigar company. While living in Reno, Marjorie cultivated an award-winning rose garden, dabbled in journalism and supported the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. An avid collector of vintage/antique clothing, Marjorie founded the Nevada Film Wardrobe costume supply company in Las Vegas in the 1980's. She lived in Las Vegas from the 1980's until moving to Boulder City in 2006 to be closer to her family. Late in life, Marjorie's greatest joys were spending time with her grandchildren, painting and talking about the two novels she planned to write. She made the best spaghetti. Marjorie was preceded in death by husband George Gleed and brother Trevor Kitcher. She is survived by sisters, Joan (Stan) Saxon and Janet Kitcher; brother, Ron (Sally) Kitcher; daughters, Candice Gleed, Jennifer Gleed and Valeria (Fred) Wright; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m., Wednesday Aug. 15, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas.
