MARY THOMAS Mary L. Thomas, 90, passed peacefully away Feb. 21, 2012 after a long brave battle with cancer. She was born Dec. 10, 1921 in Solomonville, Ariz., and was a 57-year resident of Nevada. She was a long-time bartender, retired from the Plaza Lounge in the Las Vegas area, and the first woman bartender to enter the Culinary Union. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Smoky, Artie, and David; and her husband, M. Dean Thomas. Mary is survived by her brothers, Chris "Bobby" Varela and Henry "Junior" Varela; her sisters, Dora Parks, Theresa Newby, and Josie Farney; her daughter, Dian Confer Paxton Mitchell and her husband Kevin Mitchell; their children, Darrel Paxton and wife Cheri, Carol Poulson and husband Brad, James Paxton and wife Alisha, Gina Fait and husband Scott, and Cody Mitchell; her daughter, Valerie Wilson Rensvold Armenta and her husband J.T. Armenta, and their children Brandon Rensvold, Janae Rensvold and Taylor Rae Armenta. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Saturday, March 3, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Blvd. Funeral services immediately following. Graveside services will be at 10:40 a.m., Monday, March 5, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.
