MAUREEN BERNSTEIN Maureen Ann Bernstein, of Henderson, passed away Aug. 24, 2012, her 59th birthday. Born Aug. 24, 1953, in Modesto, Calif., she was an area resident since 1963. Mrs. Bernstein worked for the Clark County School District, teaching theater for 20 years, most recently at Desert Oasis High School. She was a member of the Nevada Thespian Society, Who's Who of American Women, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and the UNLV Alumni Association. She was a member of the National Education Association. She was a professional actress, and was a musical comedy comedienne, performing in New York City, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Her most memorable role was April in "Company" with UNLV and her tour with "Bottoms Up." She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ann Abell. She is survived by her husband, of 35 years, Lawrence "John"; son, Frankie Bernstein; brother, Jack (Teresa) Abell; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30. Funeral services will be at noon, Friday, Aug. 31, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Private burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Maureen's name are suggested to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
