Owen Kenneth Brown Obituary
Owen Kenneth Brown told cancer and Parkinson's to take a hike and went to be with the Lord on July 30th, 2017 with his family by his side. Ken was born August 27, 1940 in Pontiac, Michigan to Beulah Sutton and Owen Kelly Brown. He and his big sister, Regina were lifelong best friends. Ken graduated from Avondale High School in Auburn Hills, Michigan where he played football. After graduation, Ken hitchhiked to California and then back to Las Vegas where he made his home. Ken was a self-made man all the way and could do anything he set his mind to do. He began tending bar and became a member of the Culinary Union. While working at local bars such as Bond Air, Copper Penny and the 2nd floor bar at McCarran Airport, he set his sights on another career as a stagehand. He joined IATSE Local 720 and for the next 40+ years he worked shows, client convention booths and corporate events. Ken was an electrician, rigger, and lighting genius with many clients including State Farm, Sony, Microsoft, HBO and Ford. His crews were always top notch and highly praised for their work and professionalism. Ken raised two kids on his own. He was an amazing father, grandfather, son and brother. We will all miss his spirit and wisdom tremendously. Greeting him in heaven are his Mother, Beulah; step dad, Bono Reiher; sister, Regina and his best buddy, TJ. Surviving him are his daughter Kendra Elliott (Robert) and son Kenneth Brown (Selyna). Grandchildren Brennan Rigg, Kendra Marie Brown, Hunter Brown and Trent Elliott. His sister Diane Pfister and many nieces and nephews also survive him. Ken was happiest working with his friends. Thank you to all his 720 brothers for their love over the years. The family would like to particularly thank the caregivers that gave our Dad such love and comfort. You are all a Godsend and we appreciate you so much. Bye Daddy, we love you. Memorial service to be held August 6th at 11am, Palm Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas. The family asks that in Lieu of flowers, please think about donating to ULAN.org United Labor Agency of Nevada. They are a Nevada based non-profit that helps people who are experiencing hardship or an unexpected crisis. Dad was always there to help anyone who asked.
