PAUL CARELLI III Paul Vincent Carelli III, a 48-year resident of Las Vegas, passed away Dec. 29, 2012, from natural causes. Son of Dr. Paul and Adeline Carelli, Paul was born Dec. 1, 1938 and raised in the "Windy City" of Chicago, where he developed a lifelong love of family, food and warmer climates, and where he met the love of his life, Sharon Mary Severino. Paul traveled west to obtain his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Colorado, majoring in Asian history, before returning to Chicago to obtain his juris doctorate degree from Loyola University Chicago, School of Law. Paul moved to Las Vegas in 1964 and was admitted to the Nevada Bar and became a member of the Clark County Bar Association in 1965. Over the next 40 years until his retirement in 2005, Paul enjoyed a distinguished career practicing litigation, general counsel and family law and served for many years as a judge pro tem of the Clark County Municipal Court. In recognition of his accomplishments and contributions to the legal community, Paul was honored in 2004 by the Augustus Society and presented with the Justinian Award. Paul also served for 28 years as the Honorary Italian Consul for the State of Nevada. In addition to his professional pursuits, Paul had a passion for food and cooking that led him to serve as a restaurant critic for the Las Vegan Magazine and as the Bailli for the Las Vegas Chapter, Chaine des Rotisseurs International Gastronomic Society, for which he was honored with the title of Grand Commander in 2010. Paul was also an avid golfer and fisherman and, when not engaging in outdoor pursuits, could often be found indoors feeding his voracious appetite for history and reading. In 1967, Paul married Sharon in Chicago, thus beginning the role that he cherished most - that of loving husband, father and grandfather. With his trademark "joie de vivre," Paul led his family on countless adventures, small and large, traveling the world and embracing all that the world had to offer, while at the same time instilling in his family the perfect joy of a simple bowl of pasta enjoyed at home with family. Paul's spirit was boundless and infectious - it touched everyone he encountered, from dear friends to complete strangers and it lives on in the loving memory of his family. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael; and beloved niece, Mary Severino Meyer. He is survived by his wife, of 45 years, Sharon Mary (Severino) Carelli; his children, Paul Vincent IV (Sandy Greenman Gordon) of San Diego, and Nicole Michele Kwak (Rick) of Venice, Calif.; sister, Carol Ann Carelli of Oak Park, Ill.; precious grandchildren, Emma, Marisa, Erickson and Nixon; brother-in-law, Dr. Ronald Severino (Rosemary) of Wheaton, Ill.; and three nephews. Viewing will be 4-7 p.m. Friday January 4, followed by the Prayer Vigil at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, all at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel, Bishop Gorman High School, 5959 S. Hualapai Way, Las Vegas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mary Severino Meyer Memorial Nursing Scholarship Director of Development Marquette University, College of Nursing, 530 N. 16 St., Milwaukee, WI 53233.
