Obituary Condolences

PETER FARIS R. Peter Faris, of Henderson, passed peacefully away Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2012, at St. Rose Siena, after a short illness. He leaves behind his adoring wife, Jan; daughter, Jordan; and son, Zachary. Peter was born Aug. 7, 1941, in Dunedin, New Zealand. He was the eldest of three boys born to Merle and Bob Faris. His two younger brothers, Roy (Judy) Faris of Alexandra, New Zealand, and Runaway Bay, Australia, and Graeme (Carol) Faris of Sydney, Australia, mourn his passing. Peter is also survived by four nieces and their families. After completing technical school, Peter joined the Evening Star as a copy boy. He then spent the next 45 years in the newspaper business, working for papers in Auckland, New Zealand, and Sydney. In 1973, Peter moved to New York, to work in the Sydney Morning Herald's U.S. bureau. There, he met his wife, Jan, whom he married in 1978. Peter continued working for News Corporation at the Star and the New York Post. He became managing editor of the Post and stayed with the Murdoch organization through the early days of Fox Television, working on "A Current Affair." In 1999, Peter took a job in Beverly Hills, Calif., at WestWorld Productions as publisher of Computer Technology Review. He lived in Santa Monica, Calif., and loved to go down to the beach with his book, cigar and his coffee. In 2002, Peter moved to Henderson, where he worked in the special events departments of the Tropicana, Planet Hollywood, the Riviera and the many casinos of the Harrah's organization. He met many new friends and loved the job involving tournaments and customer rewards. He also was an arbitrator for FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) and spent his free time reading and following his beloved All Blacks, the New Zealand rugby team. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a donation in Peter's name be given to .
