Obituary Condolences

ROBERT DORINSON Robert Malvern Dorinson, the founder and president of Evergreen Recycling (ret.), of Las Vegas, passed away Feb. 25, 2013. He was 62. Rob was born Dec. 15, 1950, in San Francisco, and was raised in Marin County, Calif., where he attended Redwood High School. He was a resident of Las Vegas since 1983. Rob was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanne Cleburne Dorinson. Rob is survived by his wife, Lori; and their four children, Jamie, Erica, Michael and Daniel; his father, Sol Malvern Dorinson; his brothers, Peter, Steven and Patrick; and his sister, Mary Day. Rob was known for his sense of humor, energy for life, passion for the environment, but most of all his love and appreciation for his family and friends. He touched the lives of so many people through his kindness, generosity and compassion. He enjoyed skiing, hiking, fishing and traveling. Rob was a leader and pioneer in the community by establishing a movement of action and awareness about recycling and environmental stewardship in southern Nevada. Rob's drive and commitment to the cause lead him to become the founder, president and chief executive officer of Evergreen Recycling in 1997. Rob's leadership and vision in providing comprehensive commercial and construction recycling services led to the successful acquisition of the company by Republic Services in 2010. Rob served as an advocate and was a founding member of the local chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council and was involved in the Nevada Recyclers Coalition, Association of General Contractors, Construction Materials Recycling Association (CMRA), NDA and the Chambers. Rob received several commendations including Environmental Achievement award by the EPA in 2008, Best Green Practices award by the Las Vegas Business Press in 2009, Small Business Person of the Year by the SBA in 2009, Construction and Demolition Recycler of the Year by CMRA in 2009 and the U.S. Green Building Council Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012. Prior to starting Evergreen Recycling, Rob worked as a general contractor in California, and Las Vegas building custom homes and commercial projects. Rob has a bachelor of arts degree in history from the University of California at Berkeley. Rob was not only passionate about recycling and preserving the worlds natural resources, he was committed to educating citizens and businesses on the importance of being green and making a difference in the quality of life in southern Nevada. He also was a proud supporter of many community causes including the ALS Foundation of Nevada, Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada, Safe Nest, Olive Crest, the Blind Center, Through the Eyes of a Child and the Ronald McDonald House. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m., Friday, March 8, at Shadow Hills Baptist Church, 7811 Vegas Drive. Services are open to the public. Family, friends and colleagues are all welcome. Rob's wishes are that no one wears dark clothes. Please come in bright colors. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Rob's name to the ALS Foundation of Nevada.
