 MSGT. RUSSELL NEWELL U.S. Air Force, Retired Russell Lake Newell, age 79, of Las Vegas, passed away Feb. 25, 2013. He was born Sept. 8, 1933, in Clinton, Wash., to Roy and Bessie Lyons Newell. He served in the U.S. Army and later in U.S. Air Force and retired as a master sergeant in 1982. He was a Vietnam veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Russell enjoyed reading and watching sports. He had a strong faith and was a member of the Methodist church. Russell is survived by his wife, Mi Yung Newell; son, Jerry Newell; daughter-in-law, Margaretta Newell; two grandchildren, Tony and Ty Newell; nephew, Bomjoo Un; and niece, MiJin Un. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 1, at the Griffith United Methodist Church, 1701 E. Oakey Blvd., Las Vegas. Burial will be at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
