1927 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
THERESA MURPHY OWEN Theresa Murphy Owen of Henderson, passed away May 16, 2017. She was born Aug. 27, 1927, on a farm in Tuolumne, Calif. Raised on the family farm by her two loving parents, Bernard Emmet and Crystal Wright Murphy, she lived there until 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters; and her brother. Although Theresa spent many years in Nevada, she never forgot where she came from. She loved the majesty of the wooded countryside of Tuolumne and her parent's home on the Murphy Ranch. Theresa attended and graduated from Modesto Junior College in California, where she received her Associate's Degree. After that, she attended San Francisco State Teacher's College, where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Years later, she attended Northern Arizona University and obtained her Master's Degree in Special Education. Theresa taught for 10 years in California and then she taught for 32 years, teaching Special Education in Nevada. She loved teaching her special children and taking them on exciting trips to Zion National Park and attractions in southern California. A dedicated and tireless educator, she loved nurturing those entrusted to her care. She fiercely advocated for her students and went above and beyond to help them learn. Theresa loved to travel and would work many summers at many National Parks, including Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Zion, Grand Canyon (North Rim), Olympic and Denali. She traveled and hiked in countless places throughout the world such as Great Britain, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Italy, Germany, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, France, Mexico, Peru, and Russia. She was a great travel guide to anyone who came to visit her in her Henderson home where she lived for over 50 years. Theresa is survived by her daughters, Crystal Molen (Ward) and Crystina Scott (Walter); and by many that were family to her, whether by birth or by association. During the course of her life, she touched countless lives and influenced so very many. She always had a place for you in her life and considered you an important part of her family even if she just met you or had known you for years. There are those still living that will mourn the loss of this elect lady and those that have passed that now celebrate a joyous reunion with their beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Friends and family may attend a memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Community Church of Henderson, 360 E. Horizon Drive, Henderson. As per her request, Theresa will be cremated and her remains will be taken back to Tuolumne to be interred near her family, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Theresa has requested donations be made to the Community Church of Henderson.
